About - Rachel D Newton
I am a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the Signal and Image Processing & Machine Learning track of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Michigan. I am co-advised by Laura Balzano, Ph.D. and Peter Seiler, Ph.D. I am fortunate to be supported by an NSF graduate research fellowship.
My research focuses on nonconvex optimization in the context of control systems. I am particularly interested in
- Optimization on Riemannian manifolds
- Reduced-order modeling for large-scale systems
- Data-driven modeling with provable guarantees
